QuiltingB's Quilting Patterns - Ohio Star

Although I could provide templates for the various pieces, I have decided instead to provide size measurements and cutting instructions. This is because of the differences in computer screen resulutions and printer settings. By providing these measurments and cutting instructions, you can be sure that your pieces will be the proper size and scale. If you prefer to use templates, simply follow these measurement instructions, cutting out pieces of paper and transfer that to template plastic.

1. Cut the pieces.

From background fabric (white) cut the following:

  1. 4 1/2 X 4 1/2 inch square--cut 4. These are your A squares.
  2. 5 1/4 X 5 1/4 inch square--cut 1. Cut into quarters along the diagonals, as illustrated below; these are your 4 B triangles.

From blue fabric, cut:

  1. 4 1/2 X 4 1/2 inch square--cut 1. This is your A square.

From red fabric, cut:

  1. 5 1/4 X 5 1/4 inch square--cut 1. Cut into quarters along the diagonals, as illustrated above; these are your 4 B triangles.

From green fabric, cut:

  1. 5 1/4 X 5 1/4 inch square--cut 2. Cut into quarters along the diagonals, as illustrated above; these are your 8 B triangles.

Red, white, blue, and green are just for illustration--use any colors you like.

2. Sew the triangles together into squares.

First, sew the triangles together into larger triangles, like this:

You'll be making:

  1. 4 green/red triangles
  2. 4 green/white triangles

Then, sew the triangle units into squares, like this:

You'll be making:

  1. 4 squares.

3. Sew the squares into strips:

4. Sew the block together:
